Institutional Repository Deployment

An institutional repository (IR) is an archive for collecting, preserving, and disseminating digital copies of the intellectual output of an institution, particularly a research institution. Academics also utilize their IRs for archiving published works to increase their visibility and collaboration with other academics.

We approach Institutional Repositories depending on the existing number of scholars in the institution and that determines the software and hardware deployment that is activated.

Therefore our approach is based on the following Categories:

Category A
This is the category for institutions with academic staff size between 1 and 100 scholars. In this category, we will deploy the repository in a shared hosting facility with a framework that is minimal in resource demand.

Category B
This is the category for institutions with academic staff size between 101 and 500 scholars. In this category, we will deploy the repository in a virtual private server using a framework that is average in resource demand.

Category C
This is the category for institutions with academic staff size between 501 and 10000 scholars. In this category, we will deploy the repository in a dedicated server using an enterprise framework.

An Institution can start small and grow through the categories. Our deployment is such that, datasets from one category can be imported/exported as the need arises.
